Raquel's Outlook on Life

This year was a new beggining for all my friends and I. We are finally in highschool and very excited to actually get involved. All of us found our special talent, we figured out what we wanted to be involved. All of us expect one. His name is Tyler and he didn't really fit into any club or sport. He did't want to join a club because he wasn't interested in school, he wasn't verytalented when it came to sports. Although he wasn't very good he tried his best and made the fall football team. He went to practice evyday but didn't play in many of the games. There was one little issue though. Since he wasn't interested in school he didn't have very good grades, in order to stay on the team he had to bring them up or else the coach would have to cut him. He worked as hard as he could and brought the grades up that he had to. Considering all of Tyler's hard work the coach put him in one of the last games of the season. All his hard work and practice had paid off and he did really well. People never gave Tyler the benefit of the doubt before, he was just making his way through school. Once he got something to work towards and a drive towards something that he actually cared about his whole outlook changed. It made me look at him differently and helped me gain a new appreciation for teachers and coaches. It also made me realize that if you work towards something anything is possible. This post is part of the http://mat.usc.edu/ Hope for the holidays event. Did you have an experience or witness something in 2009 which gave you hope for the future of American education? If so, please see this post for more information on how to share it.
